How glove size is measured
Fielding gloves are measured from the top of the index finger down the palm to the heel. Catcher’s mitts are usually measured around the outside edge, which is why their numbers are much larger.
How to check the fit
- Your hand should fit snugly, without much slipping.
- You should be able to open and close the glove with control.
- Bigger is not always better. Infielders usually want a smaller glove so they can get the ball out quickly.
- Between sizes? Younger players often do better with the smaller size because they can control it.
Softball gloves
Softball gloves generally run larger because the ball is bigger. Choose the softball option and go up in size compared to a similar baseball position.
